Front light does not work

Hi!

I have a problem with my XT600 '91.
All of a sudden my city lights don't work anymore (only the dim-light works), and if i put my headlights on, the high beam indicators lights up, even when it's on low light..

Any suggestions ?

As it's an electricity problem, it is not easy to give a concrete advise where to search for. Sometimes weak batteries cause similar problems at specific motorcycles, but i don't think that is the problem.
So the first recommendation to give, is checking all connectors. You should especially glance at the control-unit at your handle bar. Drown it in Contact-Spray, and check the connections.
If that doens't work, you probably have to search for an earth-connection problem or change important devices like CDI gradually for a test. Search for another XT-driver in your environment then.

Hi Zen,

also check the cables (those concerning front light) for malfunction.

And, even if it sounds stupid, the lamp itself. Change ist against a lamp, which works, as sometimes the problem cannot be seen by the human eye.

High ZEN what does it mean Zero Elektrik Nonsense ?
When your light isn't shining more may be its tired and just sleeping.
The ways of any elektricity are far and undiscovered.
Praise the Lord you've got a Yamaha which all of a sudden comes dead.
Your tiny little simptom is typically when currents flow across where they don't belong to. You have to put a new Ground connection to the front bulb, but beware of frame gripping, that's shit, take the wiring harness or better engine block. Then your head will get illumination. Year !

i gotta go buy a volt-meter, and i'll check those connections...
finding it is just one problem, replacing it will be a lot tougher i assume.

Hi,
I had some trouble with the lights before. No lights at all or lights on only until I used the indicators, then darkness except for the parking light. Sometimes no neutral light and sometimes only static indicator lights. Then everything worked perfectly for a while only to surprise me with a wonderful lightshow in the night when all the lights started flashing in turn. Cleaned, greased and sealed all the contacts and still no cure.
Turned out to be the ignition lock. After I change it I had no more trouble at all. Why it all reacted as it did, who knows?
